Smokin Jack’s BBQ
Family-run, slow-smoked Owosso BBQ — legendary BBQ burritos, fall-apart brisket, pulled pork that piles high on a brioche bun, plus Tex-Mex twists you won’t find anywhere else.
From Food Truck Dream to Owosso BBQ Favorite
Tucked just off the main road on North Park Street in downtown Owosso, Smokin Jack’s BBQ is the Hughes family’s real-deal, slow-smoked passion project. Brothers Jake and Jackie Hughes, along with Jake’s wife Stephanie, spent two years pulling up to events around Shiawassee County in their food truck before opening the brick-and-mortar at 220 N. Park Street in early 2025. The truck still rolls out for weddings, bridal showers, baby showers, and parties up to 200 people, but now you can grab their pulled pork sandwich, brisket plate, or BBQ burrito any Thursday through Saturday in their cozy counter-service spot.
What keeps locals coming back is the food and the family-run feel. Smokin Jack’s smokes meats low and slow every morning, piles them high on toasted brioche buns or wraps them in 12-inch tortillas with house mac and cheese, and serves them up alongside creamy coleslaw, smoky baked beans, and that mac that diners can’t stop talking about. Just a short walk from Curwood Castle, the Owosso Farmers’ Market, the Lebowsky Center, and the Steam Railroading Institute, it’s the perfect lunch stop on any downtown Owosso day — just don’t wait too long, since they’ve been known to sell out.
